metadata.atena.dc.description: O presente estudo analisou os principais conceitos e práticas de gestão ambiental, objetivando identificar a amplitude das ações desenvolvidas pela Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telégrafos (ECT) - Agência de Santiago/RS, verificar se suas ações são adequadas e efetivamente contribuem para um programa de gestão ambiental. Para realizar este trabalho se adotou a metodologia qualitativa, através do estudo de caso único. Foi aplicado um questionário e realizadas visitas na agência para se observar diretamente comorealizam suas atividades. Como avanço de alguns resultados foi possível medir os resíduos gerados estimando possíveis desperdícios e elaborar a proposição de algumas ações para a agência de Santiago/RS, a fim de aperfeiçoar a utilização dos materiais e energias na prestação dos serviços. Verificou-se que asações ambientais ocorrem de forma isolada e ainda não fazem parte de um Sistema de Gerenciamento Ambiental a ser adotado.ABSTRACTThis study analysed the main concepts and practices of environmental management, seeking to identify the actions developed by the Brazilian Company of Mail and Telegraphs (ECT) - Agency of Santiago/RS besides verifying whether its actions are appropriate and indeed they contribute to a program of environmental management. To accomplish this goal we adopted the qualitative methodology, through a case study. A questionnaire was applied and we visited the agency to observe directly how they have their activities done. As an advance of some results it was possible to measure the generated residues esteeming possible wastes and to elaborate proposition of some actions to Santiago/RS agency, in order to improvethe use of materials and energy in the services. We also verified that the environmental actions are little and they are not part of an Environmental Management System that can be adopted
