Descrição: This study seeks to discuss about the administration course structure in a non-profit private university under the approach of the Contingency Theory. The theoretical referential underlines the works of Burns & Stalker (1960) and Lawrence & Lorsch (1967) that contributed with the use of the environment variable and with the definition of mechanical and organic organizational structures in the study of the organizations. The methodology adopted was a qualitative research with a case study. Interview in depth was applied with the course coordinator, which provided success in the exploration and identification of the administration structure of the respective analyzed course; After analysing the results of the studied case we can state that the contingency factor „environment' was clearly defined as organic, the other factors studied appeared partiality in the structure of mechanical and organic administration in the study. Este artigo trata da estrutura de gestão do curso de Administração em uma faculdade privada sem fins lucrativos constituída como Sociedade Educacional e sob a ótica da variável ambiente da Teoria  Contingencial. Abordaram-se com destaque os trabalhos de Burns & Stalker (1960) e Lawrence & Lorsch (1967) que contribuíram com a utilização da variável ambiente e com a definição das estruturasorganizacionais mecânicas e/ou orgânicas. A metodologia adotada foi qualitativa consistindo em um estudo de caso com a aplicação de entrevistas em profundidade com o coordenador do Curso o que propiciou êxito na exploração e identificação da estrutura de gestão do referido curso. Foi utilizada a variável contingente "ambiente" e os fatores de medição desta variável: "divisão do trabalho", "especialização", "padronização", "processo decisório e centralização" e "ambiente", conclui-se que somente o fator contingencial "ambiente" ficou claramente definido como orgânico, os demais fatores apareceram parcialmente na estrutura de gestão mecânica e orgânica.ABSTRACTThis study seeks to discuss about the administration course structure in a non-profit private university under the approach of the Contingency Theory.
