Título: Operational risk management by brazilian public financial institution: a case study

Descrição: Risk management is a current theme in banking industry. This study aims to check the stage for the development of operational risk management (ORM) by brazilian public financial institution. For this, a descriptive case study was done. There was a bibliographic and documentary descriptive research and questionnaires were sent to the institution's operational risk managers. Data analysis employed the matching the pattern technique (YIN, 2005). The analysis based mainly on the nineteen activities grouped into five stages for the development of operational risk management: 'traditional base', 'awareness', 'monitoring', 'quantification' and 'integration'. The main results show a description of the selected public financial institution, an assessment of the activities associated to each stage previously described and an allocation of a stage of development for the ORM between 'quantification' and 'integration'. Um tema de pesquisa atual na indústria bancária é a gestão de riscos. Este estudo busca analisar o estágiode desenvolvimento da gestão do risco operacional em uma instituição financeira pública que atua noBrasil. A pesquisa é descritiva, usa o método estudo de caso e a coleta de dados emprega pesquisasbibliográfica, documental e de campo, aplicando-se questionário a gestores de risco operacional dainstituição analisada. A análise utiliza a técnica de adequação ao padrão (YIN, 2005) e os elementos deanálise apresentam dezenove atividades agrupadas em cinco estágios para o desenvolvimento da gestão dorisco operacional: 'base tradicional', 'conscientização', 'monitoramento', 'quantificação' e 'integração'.Os resultados apresentam a instituição financeira estudada, as avaliações das atividades associadas a cadaestágio previamente descrito e a atribuição de um estágio de desenvolvimento para gestão desse risco entre'quantificação' e 'integração'.ABSTRACTRisk management is a current theme in banking industry.
